The role of the Board of Health is to protect the health of our residents and to promote a safe environment.
The Health Department conducts inspections of restaurants, pools, and other facilities to ensure proper sanitation, and investigates public health nuisance complaints such as trash or rodents. It also issues birth, death and marriage/domestic partnership/civil union certificates, marriage/civil union licenses , retail food, temporary food licenses and pet licenses, provides health clinics for children, and health promotion programs for all ages.
All dogs and cats seven (7) months or older residing in the borough must be licensed. The pets' current rabies immunization must expire after October 31st of the licensing year. Licenses are renewable every year starting January 1. Pet license applications are mailed out in January and is available below.
Any newly acquired pet of licensing age or any pet attaining licensing age shall make application for a license and registration tag for such dog or cat within 30 days after such acquisition, age attainment or move into the borough. Please call the health department with any questions.

Registration of all Births, Deaths, Civil Unions, Domestic Partnerships, and Marriages that occur in Demarest.

We issue certified copies of Births, Deaths, Civil Unions, Domestic Partnerships and Marriages that occurred in Demarest. The Certified Copy Request form can be accessed from the right side of the page.
Dispose of your unwanted medications at the Demarest Police office lobby. Environmentally safe disposal of expired or unused medications, only non-controlled drugs and schedule II, III, IV, and V controlled substances can be accepted. Accepted are prescriptions, prescription patches, prescription medications, prescription ointments, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, samples, and medications for pets. Not accepted are needles, thermometers, hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, aerosol cans, ointments, lotions, or liquids, and bloody or infectious waste. This to make our communities safer and to fight against prescription drug abuse and to protect the earth and waterways from chemical contamination.

As of Monday, January 25th, a vaccine call center will assist individuals to pre-register for a vaccine and make vaccine appointments. No computer necessary.
Call center hours of operation are 8am-8pm.
